Shares of BTG Pactual continue to sink after a partnership between a billionaire banker and a government official failed to impede a graft-probe.  Senator Delcidio do Amaral is the first Senator to be arrested since the 1988 constitution established parliamentary immunity.  Andre Esteves resigned Sunday as CEO and chairman of the large investment bank BTG Pactual, as he won’t be leaving his cell anytime soon. The original investigation revolved around corruption in Petrobras, a giant oil company that is state-controlled.  Amaral and Esteves are accused of attempting to persuade a key witness from signing a plea agreement to cooperate in the investigation. (Goy, 2015)

BTG Pactual lost more than $1 billion from their investors, as many began pulling out once Esteves was arrested.  The busted obstruction led shares and bonds to drop in value.  Moody’s Investor Service and Fitch Ratings are keeping an eye on the floodgates to see how much waste enters the market, incase they have to downgrade the bank’s rating.

The scandal also adds additional pressure to Brazil’s political party.  While the party should be focused on dealing with budget deficits and their underperforming currency, leaders of both houses are under investigation.  (Raymond Colitt, 2015)  Senator Amaral, leader of the upper house, is detained.  Eduardo Cunha, speaker of the lower house, denies allegations that he took a bribe to pass legislation benefiting the bank.  Eduardo Cunha has not yet been arrested, but is under investigation for taking a 12 million dollar bribe from Andre Esteves.  Cunha is also under investigation for some Swiss bank accounts that recently surfaced, but he swears the funding of those accounts is completely legal.

Scandals are never non-reactive.  Just as a busted dam fills a river with waste, this busted obstruction will have long-term effects on the Brazilian economy.

Like Eisenhower, Trump has a plan for illegal immigrants. He doesn’t think immigration would even be an issue for the debates had he not made it an issue.  The Donald believes he’s taken a lot of abuse for his comments on immigration.  He will defund sanctuary cities and build a wall.  He’s currently building a hotel in Washington DC that’s ahead of schedule and under budget.  He believes it to be the greatest hotel in America, and this is how he knows he can build the Trump wall.  This wall that Mexico will pay for is going to have a door in it for people to enter through legally.  Today America is a gross incompetence of division, and Trump is going to change that.  He’ll bring people together.  He keeps telling us, “We are going to make America great again, better than ever before.” (Full Speeches: GOP Candidates At "Sunshine Summit" In Florida, 2015)

Carson retired in Florida, but is ready to return to work for the American people.  The man knows a lot about poverty, and believes the war on poverty has resulted in more folks in poverty.  In his Sunshine State speech, he told us what he would do if he was trying to destroy America.  He would try to drive wedges between everyone and everything, and destabilize the country financially.  He would invite people in and give them free benefits, including college.  He would decrease military, and take us out of the space race.  Not a far cry from our current state.  He tells us,  “We can turn it around, but if we don’t win and get another progressive in office, we’ll be toast.” He wants everyone to realize his or her role in making sure that doesn’t happen. (Full Speeches: GOP Candidates At "Sunshine Summit" In Florida, 2015)

Huckabee wants us to stop the corruption in the nations capital, because that’s what is ruining our country.  He will scrap the tax code, and implement the fair tax so we’re paying tax on consumption as opposed to productivity.  He wants to fix the economy, and bring manufacturing jobs back to America. He will secure the border in under a year.  He wants those that cross the border to do so with the intentions of contributing to our great United States.  Huckabee tells us that self-government is better than an elected government.  His high hopes are admirable, but how is he going to make them a reality?  (Full Speeches: GOP Candidates At "Sunshine Summit" In Florida, 2015)

Marco Rubio is the first of the candidates to officially get his name on the ballet for president.  On his very first day in the oval office, he will cancel the deal that Obama signed with Iran.  Rubio’s speech at the Sunshine Summit revolved around limited government, free enterprise, and strong families with strong values.  These three core principles are what can make America great again.  (Full Speeches: GOP Candidates At "Sunshine Summit" In Florida, 2015)

The second democratic debate took place in Iowa over the weekend.  There are far less choices on democratic side the spectrum.  Hillary, Sanders, and O’Malley had the opportunity to share their ideas with the American people.  Sanders’ wants to increase social security benefits, make public college free, build infrastructure, and tax the rich to pay for it.  He just doesn’t know how much to tax them yet.  When asked how she would regulate Wall Street when they are her biggest contributors, Clinton claims to have a tough plan.  She will go not only after big banks, but after hedge funds as well. (Full Video: Watch the CBS News Democratic Debate )  Is there  a politician out there who is not in someway influenced by their major contributors?

Even when you’re dealing with nothing but jokers, you still have to pick one.  Carson is right in the idea that those who do not vote help allow the wrong one to get voted in.  Next November you’ll get to pick one, but keep in mind the next joker that takes office may just do us all in.

My banter was on current affairs and ran from 2011 - 2016. I currently enjoy writing satire and horror shorts.

I chose themes to run against each current event to bring some entertainment to my Banters. I began writing the banter in February 2011, and wrote my last in February 2016.
