In Assembly

Debt increases, as bailouts continue.  Almost seems like a contradiction when the Union agrees to more high interest loans to bail troubled countries out of debt.  Ireland and Portugal followed Greece's example of taking on greater debt to get themselves out of debt.  Now we're on to round two.

Many citizens of Greece disagree with the idea of footing the bill of a crisis caused by the government.  Peaceful protests have turned violent, as their government approves a strict plan in order to obtain their second bailout package.  When your too big to fail, the best way to stay afloat tends to be on the back of someone smaller.  The Greek Parliament will obtain their funding by wage and benefit deductions, and tax increases.  Hard to imagine why the protesters are so bloody angry right now.

Since the US economy is doing so well, Obama has pledged our support in bailing out Greece.  We spend our money wisely.  Besides, here in the States, all we have to do is raise the debt ceiling, and everything will be all right.  Who pays for our ever growing national debt?  US Tax payers.

During tough economic times, it seems the only ones who do not understand the term, "cutbacks", are the hierarchy who set the guidelines.  As the European Union calls for spending cuts, and tax hikes in Greece, Portugal, and Ireland, the Parliament pack up for their monthly move.  The monthly travel between Brussels and Strasberg is estimated to cost our European counterparts around 200 million Euro's each year.  Who funds the move?  European Tax payers.

Government representatives are consistent in their waste.  That is something that we can count on as citizens.  It does not matter if we are located in the US, Europe, or anywhere else in the world.  A vote for change leads some officials to believe we want them to dig deep into our pockets, and sofa cushions to find it.

The Gingrich Drama

"I swear, anyone watching the nightly news on CBS would never think to associate the contras with the idea of liberation. There is not, on CBS, a moment given over to the idea of the contras or to the inequities of the government they are fighting. Hollywood could go no further than Dan Rather in polarizing the principals."
--Newt Gingrich on the floor of the House, June 2, 1987

Does Newt Gingrich have a shot at the presidency?  It's up for debate.  He's one of the few republican candidates who have tossed their hat in the ring.  He grew up a military brat with a love for politics.  Often associated with the Iran-Contra affair, even if just from the commentary.  Similarities to the 1980's drama can be seen throughout his own career.

His position doesn't falter whether it be from a domestic stand point or on foreign policy.  Gingrich believes human rights come from God, not government, while backing capital punishment.  While Newt Gingrich supports Iraq's freedom without our assistance, he believes our withdrawal from Iraq is an admission of defeat.  His position on Iran, is that we should persuade Iraq to dissolve their relationship with Iran.  Firearms are a God given right that should not be messed with.

When the founder of a not for profit organization is also running a for profit business that begins receiving contributions from the non-profit one, it leads one to consider the possibilities of a scandal.  As the first House Speaker to ever be penalized for ethics violations, it doesn't seem plausible that ethics/tax evasion questions would arise during his presidential run.

Why did so many senior staff members bail early from Newt's campaign trail?   Could be the dedication wasn't there.  The lack of support from his previous top aides led to a campaign for change.  If all goes well, he'll be able to take a luxury vacation with the Missus once he's fully equipped with a new crew on-board.  As long as he keeps a sense of humor on being left behind by top staff members, he'll be up for the challenge.

The hopeful GOP made clear he'd continue with the staff setback, via his facebook page.   Gingrich announced his quest for the presidency via twitter.   Newt avoids socialism, by blasting liberals.  He receive contributions from an unlikely source, that he may one day bring freedom to the American people.  It's like the Iran-Contra affair all over again, but this time we're on the road to the White House.

Going Green

President Obama has declared his nomination for the Secretary of Commerce, John E. Bryson.  As an advocate for clean energy, Mr. Bryson, will bring a new air quality to the white house.  Former Secretary, Gary Locke, has been knighted by Obama, as ambassador to China.  Obama sees an opportunity of exporting on the rise with the new delegation.

Mr. Locke is an American that stemmed from Chinese ancestry.  He is married to a former news anchor, whose father was the stepson, of the eldest of all sons, of the former "founding father of Republican China."  Mr. Gary Locke has had a diverse political career ranging from governor, to chairman of house appropriations, secretary of commerce, and possibly next, an ambassador for China.

Mr. Bryson has an impressive background as a director/trustee for several major corporations and funds.  While serving as president of a California energy corp., John E. Bryson succeeded in an agreement he led to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2010.  He is recognized as a leader in creating clean energy.

Mr. Obama sees a man who can create jobs out of clean air.  He recognizes Bryson, as a way not only to clean up the atmosphere, but also to line the U.S. treasury pockets with some green.  Uncle Sam gets his a whole lot easier when more folks are employed.  Did Obama pick the right man for the job?  If you look at Bryson's track record, you would likely agree.

If you are a republican in the senate, you may block this nomination on the basis that it came from Obama.  The stand-off began in March, when the Republican Senate threatened to block any nominee selected by the president for the position of Secretary of Commerce.  At least, they are without bias.  They demanded three trade agreements, which are said to be ready, but we all know how Mr. Obama likes to hold onto his documentation.  They'll get them, when they get them.
