Taking Care of Business

They didn’t cut out the middle man.  Men dressed in black and white uniforms are still running around the field.  They carry as much of a look of confusion to them as those watching from the sidelines.  The calls are comical until a several bad ones determine a different outcome than what may have been, if the actual rules were enforced.  A call for pass interference on the wrong team, or personal fouls that have been missed completely or called on the wrong players are the new highlights in football.  Some blame for this mess should be shared with those who created it.

Union’s been on strike, making it tough on Roger Goodell.  The NFL commissioner is as much to blame as anyone for the bad calls made on the field.  He made the call to bring in the replacements.  Last season was impressive, the way the player lockout was resolved before the season began.  They chose a different approach for their officiators, who take a tiny percentage of the income that lines the owners’ and commissioners’ pockets.

Those upper class fools don’t see the disgust of the fans who are watching from their living rooms, or at restaurants and bars.  It’s more insulting to the fans that spend their dollars for the entertainment on a Sunday or Monday game, when the integrity of the game is on the line.  From their sky box, these wealthy men still see plenty of green.  Depending on how long the fiasco continues, they may be able to fund the difference in pay and pensions from penalties paid by outraged coaches.

The owners will have no reason to fire any coach for their performance this year.  When the owner’s ask what happened, “It was the untrained man with the whistle.”  These men are the deciders and they decide what’s best, just taking care of business.  That’s all.

They passed their physicals to take to the field, but an eye test wasn’t required.  When an instant replay doesn’t help the decider to see clearly what everyone else is seeing, they may need a time out.  When talent on a play is ruled as a penalty – does Time Life still make instruction books?  When one coach challenges a play and the other coach challenges the idea that the first coach challenged a play that was unchallengeable, could it be these men don’t really belong in the game?

If anything, the referees that fans have cussed for years have earned some respect with this strike.  Even the one you hate seeing on the same field as your team, you look forward to his return.  If not by week four as many would like, then it must happen by week five at the latest.  Otherwise it’s the fans who are the jackasses for continuing to support something that hasn’t been much worth watching up to this point in the season.

Faux Propaganda

Joe Biden has indicated that if Mitt Romney were to be elected president, he would create 800,000 jobs overseas. An untruth—as many know that foreign policy is not Mr. Romney's strong suit.  Mr. Romney implied the President was out of line with his original statement on the attacks in Libya, providing the nation with a better view of what to expect from him on the terms of foreign policy. When one uses the loss of human lives for political gain, they may want to be careful how they spew it.

What led Mr. Romney to choose Paul Ryan as a running mate?  It could have to do with the marathon  Mr. Ryan ran in under three hours.  That's unlikely though since that avenue of broken dreams was avoided only in Paul Ryan's speech.  He should have run more than one so that it was not immediately discovered to be a dream that was never achieved.  Maybe he could have done better with the story telling if he had a good teacher, but education is an expense that Mr. Ryan voted to cut.

Obama won't be ditching Biden on 2012 ticket, as they're hot on the campaign trail themselves.  If they remain in office four more years, there's a chance those with a second hand education will become more familiar with who's who in the white house.  Mrs. Jill Biden had mentioned in an interview with Stephen Colbert on June 5, 12 that many of her students don't know that she is the V.P.'s wife.  She teaches at a community college.  This should only go to show how important teaching jobs are to our nation; we don't need to cut any more.

Obama commented in his acceptance speech at the DNC, "I don't believe that firing teachers or kicking students off financial aid will grow the economy."  This year is not about "Change", it's about moving "Forward".  The slogan may have stemmed from the fact the auto industry is still alive.  He talks about how we are importing much less foreign oil than previous administrations.  What does it matter if gas prices are high, when we can buy cars that go twice as far on a gallon of gas?

"I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming convection that I have no place else to go."  Obama quoted Lincoln indicating that he could relate, when he considered the areas in which he had failed.  Whether it is with congress or the American people, he has proven to be a president that can compromise.  When folks were unhappy about being told that they had help to get where they were, they chanted, "We built that!"  Obama made up for it when he spoke at the DNC by telling the crowd in reference to change, "You did that!"

Like a bad comedy, the conventions have come to an end, but the talk they both generated will be alive for a few more months.

My banter was on current affairs and ran from 2011 - 2016. I currently enjoy writing satire and horror shorts.

I chose themes to run against each current event to bring some entertainment to my Banters. I began writing the banter in February 2011, and wrote my last in February 2016.
